1. Demand for a Constituent Assembly

• English: The demand for a Constituent Assembly was first raised by M.N. Roy in 1934.
• Bengali: ১৯৩৪ সালে এম. এন. রায় প্রথম সংবিধান সভার দাবি তোলেন।

2. Indian National Congress Support

• English: In 1935, the Indian National Congress officially demanded a Constituent Assembly.
• Bengali: ১৯৩৫ সালে ভারতীয় জাতীয় কংগ্রেস আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে সংবিধান সভার দাবি তোলে।

3. British Acceptance (August Offer – 1940)

• English: The British accepted the demand in principle in the August Offer of 1940.
• Bengali: ১৯৪০ সালের আগস্ট প্রস্তাবে ব্রিটিশ সরকার নীতিগতভাবে এই দাবি মেনে নেয়।

4. Cabinet Mission Plan – 1946

• English: The Constituent Assembly was formed under the Cabinet Mission Plan of 1946.
• Bengali: ১৯৪৬ সালের ক্যাবিনেট মিশন পরিকল্পনার অধীনে সংবিধান সভা গঠিত হয়।

5. Formation of Constituent Assembly

• English: The Constituent Assembly was formed in December 1946.
• Bengali: সংবিধান সভা ডিসেম্বর ১৯৪৬ সালে গঠিত হয়।

6. First Meeting – 9th December 1946

• English: The first meeting was held on 9th December 1946 under the temporary chairmanship of Dr. Sachchidananda Sinha.
• Bengali: প্রথম বৈঠক ৯ই ডিসেম্বর ১৯৪৬-এ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, যার অস্থায়ী সভাপতি ছিলেন ডঃ সচিদানন্দ সিনহা।

7. Dr. Rajendra Prasad as President

• English: Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected as the permanent President of the Assembly on 11th December 1946.
• Bengali: ১১ই ডিসেম্বর ১৯৪৬-এ ডঃ রাজেন্দ্র প্রসাদ সংবিধান সভার স্থায়ী সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন।

8. Drafting Committee – 29th August 1947

• English: The Drafting Committee was formed on 29th August 1947, chaired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
• Bengali: ২৯শে আগস্ট ১৯৪৭-এ খসড়া কমিটি গঠিত হয়, যার সভাপতি ছিলেন ডঃ বি. আর. আম্বেদকর।

9. Number of Members

• English: Originally, there were 389 members. After Partition, it was reduced to 299.
• Bengali: শুরুতে সদস্য সংখ্যা ছিল ৩৮৯ জন। দেশভাগের পর তা কমে দাঁড়ায় ২৯৯ জনে।

10. Time Taken

• English: The Constitution took 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days to complete.
• Bengali: সংবিধান রচনায় সময় লেগেছিল ২ বছর, ১১ মাস এবং ১৮ দিন।

11. Adoption Date – 26 November 1949

• English: The Constitution was adopted on 26th November 1949.
• Bengali: সংবিধান ২৬শে নভেম্বর ১৯৪৯-এ গৃহীত হয়।

12. Enforcement Date – 26 January 1950

• English: The Constitution came into effect on 26th January 1950 (celebrated as Republic Day).
• Bengali: সংবিধান ২৬শে জানুয়ারি ১৯৫০-এ কার্যকর হয় (এই দিনটিকে প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবস হিসেবে উদযাপন করা হয়)।

13. Significance of 26 January

• English: This date was chosen to honor the declaration of Purna Swaraj in 1930.
