Different Parts of a Computer : Explanation:

๐Ÿ–ฅ️ Different Parts of a Computer

A computer is made up of two main parts:

  1. Hardware (physical parts)

  2. Software (programs)

1️⃣ Hardware

Hardware means the physical components of a computer that we can see and touch.

๐Ÿ”น A) Input Devices

Input devices are used to enter data and instructions into the computer.

Examples:

  • Keyboard – used to type text and numbers

  • Mouse – used to point, click, and select

  • Scanner – converts paper documents into digital form

  • Microphone – used to input sound

  • Webcam – used to input images/video

๐Ÿ‘‰ Function: Send data to the computer.

๐Ÿ”น B) Central Processing Unit (CPU)

The CPU is the brain of the computer. It controls all operations.

The CPU has three main parts:

1. ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)

  • Performs calculations (addition, subtraction, comparison, logic)

2. CU (Control Unit)

  • Controls and coordinates all activities of the computer

  • Directs input, processing, and output

3. Registers

  • Very small, very fast memory inside the CPU

  • Stores data temporarily during processing

๐Ÿ‘‰ Function: Processes data and controls the system.

๐Ÿ”น C) Memory (Storage Unit)

Memory stores data, instructions, and results.

๐Ÿ”ธ Primary Memory (Main Memory)

  • RAM (Random Access Memory)

    • Volatile (data lost when power off)

    • Stores running programs

  • ROM (Read Only Memory)

    • Non-volatile

    • Stores permanent instructions like BIOS

๐Ÿ”ธ Secondary Memory

  • Permanent storage

  • Used to store large amounts of data

Examples:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Function: Stores data permanently.

๐Ÿ”น D) Output Devices

Output devices display the result of processing.

Examples:

  • Monitor – displays text and images

  • Printer – produces hard copy

  • Speaker – outputs sound

  • Projector – displays output on large screen

๐Ÿ‘‰ Function: Shows results to the user.

2️⃣ Software

Software is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do.

๐Ÿ”น A) System Software

Controls the working of the computer.

Examples:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Function: Acts as a bridge between user and hardware.

๐Ÿ”น B) Application Software

Used to perform specific tasks.

Examples:

  • MS Word – typing documents

  • MS Excel – calculations

  • MS PowerPoint – presentations

  • Browser (Chrome, Firefox)

๐Ÿ”น C) Utility Software

Helps in maintenance and security.

Examples:

  • Antivirus

  • Disk Cleanup

  • Backup tools
