๐ฅ️ Different Parts of a Computer
A computer is made up of two main parts:
1️⃣ Hardware
Hardware means the physical components of a computer that we can see and touch.
๐น A) Input Devices
Input devices are used to enter data and instructions into the computer.
Examples:
-
Keyboard – used to type text and numbers
-
Mouse – used to point, click, and select
-
Scanner – converts paper documents into digital form
-
Microphone – used to input sound
-
Webcam – used to input images/video
๐ Function: Send data to the computer.
๐น B) Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The CPU is the brain of the computer. It controls all operations.
The CPU has three main parts:
1. ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)
-
Performs calculations (addition, subtraction, comparison, logic)
2. CU (Control Unit)
-
Controls and coordinates all activities of the computer
-
Directs input, processing, and output
3. Registers
-
Very small, very fast memory inside the CPU
-
Stores data temporarily during processing
๐ Function: Processes data and controls the system.
๐น C) Memory (Storage Unit)
Memory stores data, instructions, and results.
๐ธ Primary Memory (Main Memory)
-
RAM (Random Access Memory)
-
Volatile (data lost when power off)
-
Stores running programs
-
-
ROM (Read Only Memory)
-
Non-volatile
-
Stores permanent instructions like BIOS
-
๐ธ Secondary Memory
-
Permanent storage
-
Used to store large amounts of data
Examples:
-
Pen Drive
-
CD / DVD
-
Memory Card
๐ Function: Stores data permanently.
๐น D) Output Devices
Output devices display the result of processing.
Examples:
-
Monitor – displays text and images
-
Printer – produces hard copy
-
Speaker – outputs sound
-
Projector – displays output on large screen
๐ Function: Shows results to the user.
2️⃣ Software
Software is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do.
๐น A) System Software
Controls the working of the computer.
Examples:
-
Operating System (Windows, Linux, macOS)
-
Device drivers
๐ Function: Acts as a bridge between user and hardware.
๐น B) Application Software
Used to perform specific tasks.
Examples:
-
MS Word – typing documents
-
MS Excel – calculations
-
MS PowerPoint – presentations
-
Browser (Chrome, Firefox)
๐น C) Utility Software
Helps in maintenance and security.
Examples:
-
Antivirus
-
Disk Cleanup
-
Backup tools
